Pontifical Mission Societies/MissioNZ - Wear Your Own Clothes Day
Today we held a Wear Your Own Clothes Day in support of MissioNZ (The Pontifical Mission Societies) as part of the Church's celebration of World Mission Sunday. Thanks to the generosity of students, staff, and families, we are delighted to announce that we raised $694.10 to support the Church's missionary work worldwide, with a few more dollars to come; we are sure the amount will be over $700!
MissioNZ is the Pope's international mission agency in New Zealand and forms part of the worldwide network of the Pontifical Mission Societies, which supports the Church's mission of evangelisation, education, healthcare, faith formation, and pastoral care, particularly in developing countries and young mission churches.
The Pontifical Mission Societies are made up of four societies, each with a distinct focus:
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith supports missionary dioceses and parishes worldwide. Funds provide resources for evangelisation, catechetical programmes, pastoral ministry, churches, and outreach projects that help local communities grow in faith.
The Society of St Peter the Apostle assists with the formation of seminarians, religious brothers, and sisters in mission territories. Through this society, young churches can train future priests and religious leaders who will serve their communities for generations to come.
The Holy Childhood Association (Missionary Childhood) supports children helping children. It provides assistance for projects focused on children's education, healthcare, nutrition, faith formation, and protection, ensuring that some of the world's most vulnerable young people receive the care and support they need.
The Missionary Union promotes missionary awareness and formation among priests, religious, teachers, catechists, and lay people. Its goal is to foster a deeper understanding that every Christian is called to share in the mission of the Church.
The money our school raises supports a wide range of grassroots projects across Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America. These include supporting schools, healthcare programmes, seminarian formation, religious education initiatives, parish communities, and the pastoral and spiritual needs of young and emerging churches.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this initiative. Through your generosity, you have played an important part in the Church's mission of sharing the Gospel and bringing hope and opportunity to communities throughout the world.
