Get2Go Challenge
Hillary Get2Go Challenge
On Monday 3rd August, two St Ignatius teams travelled to Rotorua to compete in the Hillary Get2Go Challenge.
The first challenge was orienteering, where each team split into an A and B group to collect as many checkpoints as possible within 45 minutes.
Next, they headed into town for the rock climbing challenge, with students climbing as high and as quickly as possible to earn points for their team.
The third activity took them to the mountain bike park, where teams had 45 minutes to complete as many laps as possible. With two fewer team members than the other schools, the physical demands of the day really began to show, but both teams continued to push themselves right through to the final whistle.
The final challenge was a mystery water activity, only revealed during the briefing. Armed with one inflatable raft, two oars, one kayak paddle, and three team members, the goal was to paddle around three buoys and return to the beach as quickly as possible.
Our first attempts didn't quite go to plan. Both teams spent more time paddling in circles and backwards than towards the buoys, leaving the staff watching—and praying—from the shoreline. After regrouping and learning from the other teams, a new strategy was quickly put into action, and both teams showed great determination to finish the challenge.
A huge congratulations to all of our students for embracing every challenge throughout the day. Their teamwork, resilience, and willingness to persevere, despite the obstacles. One thing is certain—paddling has already made it to the top of our training list for next year!

The Get2Go Challenge in Rotorua was an exciting team adventure where my group completed four activities: orienteering, rock climbing, mountain biking, and kayaking. Each event challenged our teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and perseverance. My favourite activity was rock climbing, even though I'm not great with heights. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and reaching the top gave me a real sense of achievement. Although our team was not eligible to win because we were from outside the competition zone, we still gave every challenge our best effort. We took part for the experience, to challenge ourselves, improve our teamwork, and enjoy the opportunity to try new outdoor activities together. - Bryn Mair
